The lawn care market was born in the USA in the 1960s when Paul and Dick Duke started to sell lawn treatments in Troy, Ohio. Today approx 25% of US homes employ professional Lawn care companies to service their lawns, and the US professional lawn care industry is a multi billion dollar business.
In the UK we are a little way behind but catching up fast. Our market started in the 80s and the market has grown rapidly since then. But having said that today only an estimated 400,000 lawns in the UK are treated by lawn care professionals. That’s just 2.4% market penetration of an estimated 17,000,000 lawns.
If we take a catchment area of 100,000 homes a 1% market share would produce an estimated annual turnover of £200,000, so it’s easy to see that there is a large market potential within the UK.
