Weed & Moss Control

Weed control

A weed is defined as a plant growing where it is not wanted, they can be broken down into three botanical groups, Annuals (which complete their lifecycle from seed within one year), Biennials (which live for more than one year bit not longer than two years) and Perennials (which live for more than two years).

In order to control weed within lawns it is essential to apply the correct type of herbicide at the correct time of year. The science of weed control is very advanced and the herbicides used by professionals are far more effective than those available over the counter to the general public.

We would be happy to recommend a program for the eradication of your lawn weeds if you require.

Moss Control

Moss is probably the largest problem on UK lawns, it is normally a symptom of a poor lawn and poor conditions and not the cause. But we live in England, which has a damp winter climate and the total eradication of moss is almost impossible.

However, moss can be managed within a UK lawn, depending on the severity of the infestation it may be treatable with a simple liquid treatment to arrest its advance or a more involved program including scarification and over-seeding may be required.

To minimise moss in your lawn ensure that the grass is not cut too short; this weakens the grass and can be a cause of moss infestation. It is also helpful to keep your lawn in a good state of fertilisation to ensure that the grass is strong and thick which will help prevent the ingress of moss.
