Autumn fertilisation is a must for your lawn if you are wanting it to emerge from the trials of winter healthy and lush. Think of it as a pick-me-up after the spring and summer usage.
In order to fertilise a lawn correctly throughout the year different types of fertiliser are required throughout the seasons. In spring when the lawn is starting its annual growth spurt Nitrogen (N) is a key ingredient. Nitrogen encourages the soft tissue growth essential in spring. But in Autumn its completely different, root development is the key requirement. Apply fertilisers rich in phosphates and potash this will increase root growth and provide some protection against the winter diseases such as fusarium.
