Avoid expensive repair bills

It might not seem so, but your maintaining your guttering is essential if you want to avoid expensive repair bills. The easiest way to maintain your gutters is to arrange regular gutter cleaning and follow these gutter maintenance tips.

What do gutters do?

Gutters protect your home from water ingress by redirecting rainwater away from foundations. keeping them clean ensures that water can flow away from your home.

Sometimes the water, collected from the roof by the gutters, can be channeled into a tank for use watering plants.

What damage can occur as a result of poorly maintained gutters?

If water cannot run freely out of your gutters a build-up of water occurs which, can cause the roof or fascia to rot.

Gutters failing to move water away from windows and doors can cause early-stage rot resulting in costly replacement.

If the water collected by your roof over spills your gutters as a result of blockages, this can cause damage to your house foundations affecting the structural integrity of your home. Foundation subjected to excessive water can shift, crack or even sink.

Maintaining gutters

As gutters collect water that falls upon your roof they can also collect other items such as leaves and moss. Therefore it is essential to ensure that your gutters are regularly cleaned to remove debris that will eventually make is way into the down pipe resulting in a blockage.

How often should you clean your gutters?

An annual gutter clean should be sufficient for most houses, however those surrounded by trees might need more attention as a result of leaf drop.

These days modern vacuum systems can be used to remove leaves and debris from  gutters without the need for potentially dangerous ladders.
